Asking questions
Learn how to ask questions about your Power BI data in natural language and get the best results.
Questions in natural language
Once your Power BI workspace and connector are set up, you can start asking questions. Just type your question as you would ask a colleague:
- "What was the revenue last quarter?"
- "How is our liquidity?"
- "Show me the current ratio over the past 3 years"
- "Which cost items increased the most compared to last year?"
Power BI Agent understands your question, translates it into a data query, and returns a clear answer with context.
Example questions
Here are some examples of questions you can ask, organized by topic:
Financial analysis
- "What is our current ratio?"
- "How did our operating profit develop over the past year?"
- "What are our largest expense items?"
Trends and comparisons
- "How does this quarter compare to the same quarter last year?"
- "What is the trend of our revenue over the past 12 months?"
Quick insights
- "Give me a summary of our financial position"
- "Which KPIs need attention?"
Tips for better answers
- Be specific — "What was the revenue in Q3 2024?" gives a better answer than "How are we doing?"
- Name the period — Include a time frame to get targeted results.
- Use your own terms — Power BI Agent understands common business and accounting terms.
- Ask follow-up questions — You can build on previous answers to dive deeper into your data.
